As a White woman, there are questions that keep coming up for me about how I can be a better human while living in this White body.
One of these questions is how to better support Black, Brown and Indigenous friends and colleagues. I know I can’t keep asking them to educate me; I’m so lucky to have them in my life and I refuse to continue weighing them down with my pleas to do this emotional labor for me.
Even though I keep an ever-growing list of resources that have changed my life (here), I’m suffering from the “I know I found this answer somewhere but I can’t remember where!” malady.
Then yesterday, I came across an IG post by Marie Beecham (here) where she talked about two of her episodes on how White people can show up better in their cross-racial relationships. The episodes are 16, “What People of Color Need From their White Friends,” and 60, “Part 2 - What People of Color Need From their White Friends.”
Stop what you are doing and go listen to both of these episodes. You’ll find them on The Changemaker podcast by Marie Beecham (here).
I put the link to this fantastic podcast on my own anti-racism resources page (here’s the link again). If you’ve got any resources to suggest for my page, please leave a comment any time.
Once you’ve listened to these episodes of The Changemaker, please support Marie Beecham by following her and consider joining her community over on Patreon.
Thank you, Marie, for answering one of my most urgent questions!
